Greetings Singers! We had a very upbeat rehearsal last week---fun-filled and productive! Here is a short recap of what we worked on:
Announcements/Warm-ups/The "why" behind them
REVIEW: SLEIGH RIDE/ HAVE YOURSELF: Isolated some trouble spots in various voice parts
NEW: MOST WONDERFUL TIME/DECK THE HALL: sightread & isolated tricky rhythm/pitch areas
LISTEN: SWING DOWN, ANGELS
NEW: WHEN WE'RE TOGETHER: Listened to recording & worked through page 6
THIS COMING WEEK we will be getting the bulk of holiday music & binders (thank you, Kaleena--music librarian extraordinaire!). Recordings and rehearsal tracks will start to appear on the Singer Portal, as well as the CHORUSPONDENCE blog that will have rehearsal notes.
"SWING IN THE SEASON":
We will spend the bulk of our upcoming rehearsal time on our holiday music for "Swing in the Season" as our first holiday performance will be the Light up Cornelius/Tree Lighting event on Saturday, 11/30. We have confirmed performances Friday evening 12/6 7PM at HUMC, and Saturday morning 12/7 10AM at the North Meck Rec Center, and a matinee performance at CIC 12/7 or a different venue TBD. We will NOT have a performance on Sunday, 12/8!
We will add in an instrumental combo of bass, guitar, and drums, and may also have some special guest performers. We plan to include projections and some narration throughout the performance.
We also have a few "caroling" opportunities in the works and will have sign-ups for those soon!
Selections MAY include (depending on the performance & not in any particular order):
It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Deck the Hall (a cappella)
Swingin' Christmas Tree (incl. O Christmas Tree & scat singing!)
Holiday Swing (possible smaller group)
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Jing a Ling (ladies feature)
Men's Feature TBD
Swingin' St. Nick
When We're Together fr. Frozen (2 soloists w/chorus)
Swing Down, Angels (a cappella/spiritual)
Light One Candle (Hanukkah)
Saludo, Saludo (Puerto Rican Carol)
As Lately We Watched (small group/a cappella)
Jingle all the Way Medley/Audience Sing-A-Long
Sleigh Ride
Tribute Song: Sandy Rogers Barefoot (former NMCC Director)
SMALL ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS
Be on the lookout for a sign-up if you are interested in auditioning to be in our smaller featured "vocal jazz/a cappella" ensemble. Singers selected for this group will be required to memorize their selections (2-3) and exhibit "showformance" while singing!
VETERANS DAY event is Saturday morning, 11/9 at 11:00 AM at Huntersville Veterans Park, and we need more singers to commit! We will end a few upcoming rehearsals at 8PM to start rehearsing that music--please sign up! Music may include National Anthem (memorized), Let Freedom Ring/God Bless America, and Armed Services Medley.
SAVE THE DATE: Would love to have some of you in the audience for William A. Hough HS "Winter Fantasy" performance on Friday, 12/13 at 6:30 PM! This annual event features close to 200 student performers from Hough Chorus, Band, Orchestra, and Dance. I'll be sure to share the ticket link when ready!
HOPE TO SEE YOU MONDAY NIGHT 9/16 at 6:30PM!
Enjoy your weekend!
