Hello Singers and Happy first weekend of November! How are we here already??? YIKES!!!
Hope you are listening to the tracks: Swinging in the Season Tracks.
Next Saturday morning we will be gearing up for our Veterans Day performance, and a few weeks later, the Cornelius Lighting and our holiday shows will be here before we know it!
11/9 VETERANS DAY SINGERS: We will run our songs Monday night which may include the Service Medley. I would prefer that the National Anthem is memorized, please.
Attire: Look professional and patriotic! Black or dark blue dress pants (no jeans); red/white/or blue shirt/sweater; no hats or t-shirts; coat/jacket depending on weather; comfortable shoes (grass could be wet)
Please be sure your music is in the provided blue/red folder (Feel free to take out the extra music that we are not singing). *** Bring water! ***
Saturday 11/9 Call time: 10:15AM Huntersville Veterans Park 201 Huntersville/Concord Rd. We will meet by the stage.
ALL SINGERS Rehearsal:
Please take the time to start marking all dynamics w/a RED colored pencil (not pen or hi-liter unless you have re-copied/scanned your music.)
Saludo:
Review pronunciation; then sing slowly.
Sing through your notes on a neutral syllable slowly to help with note learning.
The whole song repeats so once you get your notes down for a verse and chorus, then things will fall into place!
Winter Bells: I hope you like this little gem!
Remember accents on all downbeats/beat 1
Speak through text in rhythm
Accents are very important on the "fa-la's";
'Twas the Night Before Christmas
Listen to the recording!
Speak through the text in rhythm
There are lots of accidentals in this one so really listen & work with the track.
Swingin' St Nick
Page 3 tenor/bass entrance--check it out!
Top of p7 starting with "Whisper" - check dotted rhythm
More basses are needed at m44
Everyone please mark where your 's' cut-off's fall on p 8!
Light One Candle
Parts are coming.
Think about and practice your diction & dynamics on this one!
Swingin' Christmas Tree
Put accents on beats 1 & 3
More "K" on "Christmas" every time
We are still not together w/rhythm top of 5--we agreed to sing "summer's glow" just like the rhythm in m 16 "winter's glow"
Need more bass on the first "you stand" m18
SCAT section p6-7---start singing this around the house!, to your dog---sing it slowly & then speed it up once you get it together! Go back & listen to that part of the recording to help you!
Swing Down Angels
We didn't get to this last week but don't forget to review!
Jing, Jing-a-Ling
Soprano/Alto - don't forget about this one! Remember, take it slowly!
Review parts on your other songs if you have time, but the others are focus points!
I will be adding a few more rehearsal tracks so be on the lookout (Sun/Monday AM)
OUTFIT TIPS (WHAT TO WEAR)
All
If you missed our costume requirements, check the 10/27 email!
Ladies
I've had a few questions on "jewel" tone tops. They should be SOLID colors with no pattern.
Think royalty! RED, PURPLE, EMERALD GREEN, ROYAL BLUE, GOLD
Sparkly is great. If you're not sure, send a picture or bring your top to a rehearsal!
Flattering and comfortable.
Sleeve length is up to you.
"Non-clunky shoes" means a softer sole---not boots or clogs unless we're outside.
Someone also asked me about HAIR---pulled out of your face a bit is a great idea, especially if we are outside! I'm not requiring "up-do's" but putting some effort into your hair would be nice!
SMALL GROUP AUDITIONS
Take a look in the drive for a new folder to appear this weekend called SMALL GROUP.
There will be 1 song in there to listen to! I will take a chunk from it and listen to voices before the rehearsal on 11/11 if you can be there by 6!
If you can't come early, I can hear you after!
Once formed, we will need to set up a few extra rehearsals!
My goal is 1 song that this group of singers can really nail!
