Who We Are

Founded in 2010, North Mecklenburg Community Chorus (NMCC) Inc. is a dedicated non-profit, volunteer-driven organization committed to fostering community spirit through inspiring live choral performances. We aim to bring people together to celebrate the power of music and create meaningful cultural experiences.


If you enjoy performing in front of a live audience that includes members of your family, friends, and co-workers and if you love to sing songs ranging from Christmas to Broadway, then NMCC is the place for you! Our Vision

NMCC aspires to be recognized as a premier community chorus that exemplifies musical excellence and provides engaging, high-quality entertainment. Our goal is to enrich the lives of residents in the North Charlotte and Lake Norman area by cultivating a vibrant, inclusive musical community that inspires, entertains, and fosters meaningful connections. We are dedicated to creating an environment that:

  1. Builds lasting friendships and a strong sense of camaraderie among members.

  2. Promotes continuous growth in musical and artistic skills through focused, well-structured rehearsals.

  3. Inspires active engagement in all facets of our organization – from performance production to  marketing and fundraising – fostering a collaborative and welcoming community.

Our Artistic Director

Heidi Hickox-Gordon.jpg

Heidi Hickox-Gordon, NMCC’s Artistic Director, holds a degree in Music: Vocal Performance from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, and post graduate certifications in Music Education from East Carolina University and Westminster Choir College. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Music Education through Liberty University. 

In addition to her role as Artistic Director for NMCC, Heidi is the Director of Choirs at William A. Hough High School where she leads beginning through advanced level choruses, including Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, the Treblemakers (Women’s A Cappella/Vocal Jazz) and the Howlin’ Huskies Show Choir. Heidi has directed numerous K-12 school musical productions and choral groups and has served as an adjudicator for various North Carolina arts-related contests and competitions. 

In 2016, Heidi was selected as NCASA Coach of the Year specifically for her leadership with the “Howlin’ Huskies “and has been teaching vocal music, piano, and guitar in the Charlotte area for the past 25 years. She has also been featured as assistant director, choreographer, and vocal soloist with the Carolina Voices and their vocal jazz group, Impromptu!

Our Accompanist

Sherry Malia, has served as NMCC 's Chorus Accompanist for the past 14 years. In addition to her role with NMCC, Sherry is the Music Director at Community in Christ Lutheran Church in Cornelius. Prior to that, Sherry served as the Accompanist at Huntersville United Methodist Church and worked as a Professional Court Reporter. In her spare time, she enjoys playing for special events and specialty concerts and working with young musicians. Sherry received her Bachelors of Music degree from Appalachian State University.
