Noteworthy News 10/9
Happy FriYay!
I've had quite a week and am very glad the weekend has arrived. I hated missing everyone on Monday night, but I was feeling terrible and needed to rest. I heard you had a productive rehearsal with Sherry and Hugh. Thank you for giving them your full attention—it is not easy to step in on short notice, so I appreciate your cooperation and send a big thanks to both of them.
Thankfully, I bounced back quickly and didn't miss any school. In other good news, our calendar is clear this weekend so I can take a breath. Steve continues to recover well from his knee replacement surgery and made great gains in PT this week! I'm very thankful he had this done during season
For your practice this weekend,
1. If you are a newer singer or just need some review WATCH THESE VIDEOS: How to Read A Choral Score and How to read music: Musical symbols (Staff, Bar lines, Notes, Clefs, Time Signature)
2. ALL SINGERS: Please review the material covered in last week's rehearsal, focusing on the pieces we haven't spent as much time on. Please also add the Hallelujah Chorus to your practice list (tracks have been shared). PLEASE WORK WITH YOUR TRACKS!!!!!!
3. LISTEN to your tracks before just singing along!
Speaking of rehearsing, here are a couple of reminders about rehearsal "etiquette" that will help all of us:
Please notify your section leader if you are going to miss rehearsal; section leaders should then let me know
Bring your music, pencil, and water bottle to every rehearsal!
Please mark breath marks, phrasing, articulations, dynamics, interval jumps, tricky spots, tempo changes, tricky words, etc.....your notes in your music are for YOUR eyes to help you!
If you have trouble seeing your part, you may copy the music and use a highlighter on your own copy. After using the copy, please discard it. All other marks should be made in pencil! TIP: Erasable colored pencils work great!!!!!!
Please fill in empty seats and sit with your voice part.
During rehearsal, please be mindful when one section is working; remain quiet and do not sing along unless I ask you to.
LISTENING is a key musicianship skill
A few of you have reached out about the Huntersville Veterans Day event on 11/14 and when we are rehearsing that music. If you signed up to join us for the event, we will run thru that music starting Monday 10/19 at 6:15.
Last week I shared performance attire info for our holiday events. You can access that email and all other news by going to our website and clicking on MORE & then CHORUSPONDENCE. Please plan ahead
Have a fantastic weekend! I'm looking forward to the and a bowl or two of chili!
See you at HUMC Monday night at 6:30!
All the best,
